Scott E. Edgett was born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania.  Mr. Edgett has several years of litigation experience representing injury victims.  Mr. Edgett has dedicated his profession to representing individuals who have been seriously injured or killed as a result of some else’s negligence and has also represented victims of defective products.  As a trial lawyer, he understands his important role in protecting and promoting his client’s rights and interests. 

Over his career, Mr. Edgett has successfully litigated against several Fortune 500 Companies including: General Motors, Walt Disney World, Enterprise Rent A Car, Walmart, and Target Corporation.  Mr. Edgett has recovered millions of dollars on behalf of his seriously injured clients.  Additionally, he has personally served as corporate counsel for at least 15 corporations. 

Mr. Edgett’s formal educational background began in Pennsylvania at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where he graduated with a dual major in Political Science and Criminal Justice.  After graduating college, Mr. Edgett attended Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he earned his law degree.  During law school, Mr. Edgett served as a Judicial Intern for the Honorable Patti Englander-Henning in the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit of Florida.

L. Charles (i.e. Charlie) Humphreys graduated from the University of Iowa Law School in 1986.  After graduating, he began practicing law in Iowa with his father’s law firm for several years and obtained several jury trial acquittals for criminal defendants.  In 1992, Mr. Humphreys relocated from Iowa to the Dallas Metroplex area and over the past 16 years, has become one of Texas’ top criminal attorneys.  He has represented thousands of citizens accused of crimes ranging from murder/homicide to misdemeanor shoplifting.

Over his career, Mr. Humphreys has achieved a 90%+ acquittal success rate on jury trials.  Recently, his last two jury trials for murder resulted in not guilty verdicts.  Mr. Humphreys primary emphasis is in serious felony charges such as: Homicide/Murder, Drug Possession, Drug Delivery, Drug Possession with the Intent to Manufacture, Sexual Assaults, Burglary, Robbery, Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon (UCW), Aggravated Assaults, White Collar Crimes, etc.  He practices in both Texas State Courts and Texas Federal Courts.

Although Mr. Humphreys emphasis is on serious felonies, he continues to provide quality representation to clients who are charged with misdemeanors such as: Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), Theft, Shoplifting, Criminal Trespass, Drug Possession, Public Lewd, Simple Assault, Assault Family Violence (Domestic Violence), etc.  Additionally, Mr. Humphreys provides expert representation for all probation violations and parole revocations.

Laura Peterson graduated with honors from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 1986 with her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Immediately thereafter, Ms. Peterson attended the University of Virginia School of Law where she obtained her JD degree in 1989.  After graduating law school, she relocated to the Dallas, Texas Metroplex after being recruited by the civil litigation firm of Baker, Mills, & Glast, P.C.  After a few years of practicing civil litigation, Ms. Peterson finally found her calling in criminal defense law. 

From 1994 to 1999, Ms. Peterson served as an Assistant Public Defender in Dallas County.  She was assigned to the mental illness court, misdemeanor courts, felony courts and juvenile courts.  Ms. Peterson handled all aspects of criminal cases including pleas, trials before the court, jury trials, and juvenile certification hearings.   During her five years as an Assistant Public Defender, she defended dozens of criminal cases and lost only one jury trial.

Thereafter in 1999, Ms. Peterson went into private practice and was one of the founding partners of Humphreys & Peterson Law Firm, PLLC, and has built her law firm by providing quality service and personal attention to each and every one of her
clients.  Ms. Peterson is dedicated to providing the best legal representation to her criminal defendant clients through her experience, diligent preparation and integrity for the legal profession.

Melanie Bugbee graduated from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, with her bachelor’s degree in Government. Thereafter, Ms. Bugbee attended Texas Tech School of Law where she obtained her law degree.  After graduating law school, she relocated to the Dallas, Texas Metroplex and served as a Fee Attorney for Stewart Title in Dallas, Texas.  Shortly thereafter, Ms. Bugbee opened her own law practice in the areas of family law, residential real property transactions, foreclosure, and wills and probate. 

Throughout the years, Ms. Bugbee has narrowed her practice of law to only the areas of family law, including divorce, custody, parentage, child support, visitation and access, enforcement, modification, intervention, GAL and Title IV-D cases.  Ms. Bugbee personally handles her family cases from intake through trial and has developed a significant client database over the years through referrals only.  She has an excellent work ethic and strives on achieving client satisfaction.  Her proven ability to evaluate, research, and achieve objectives efficiently and economically, has placed her ahead of other family law attorneys.  This is accomplished through her integrity, experience, and commitment to the legal profession.

Peggy J. Bradshaw, Humphreys & Peterson’s office manager and legal assistant, is known as the friendliest voice in town.  Peggy, an Arkansas native, is the glue that holds our firm together, and even when your lawyer is not available, she can usually answer that pressing non-legal question.  She has an excellent rapport with court staff in Dallas and surrounding counties.  Peggy is currently working on her own Board Certification and she offers notary services as well.
